FAQs

How do you charge for your dissertation editing services?
Rates vary considerably depending upon the nature of the work, the period of the assignment, the degree of special services, and other factors. If you request a Sample Edit, I can quote you a flat rate. As a rough guide, assignments tend to fall within a range of $8.00 and $12.00 per 250-word page depending upon the editing complexity and the deadline.

What is your billing procedure?
I will invoice you via PayPal. You do not need to have a PayPal account and you can use a credit card for payment. I will bill you in two installments—50% at the start of the project and 50% just prior to the delivery of the completed edit.

How does one-on-one editing differ from other editing services on the Internet?
Many editing services are actually brokerage services that draw from a pool of editors—some competent and interested in you, others not. Often, the editor assigned to you will not know who you are. In one-on-one editing, you will work directly and solely with me on an interactive editing basis. We will interact by either email, text, or phone as I work through your manuscript. I will never be more than minutes away from answering your questions.

What are the services that your editing process includes?
  • I will edit your manuscript for all of the basic elements of academic writing: grammar, sentence structure, paragraph organization, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, word choice, and parallel structure.
  • I will rewrite your manuscript to eliminate wordiness and redundancy and to achieve clarity, conciseness, precision, and consistency of style,
  • Based upon the stylistic guidelines and university modifications that you designate, I will correct errors of style and form, such as numbers, quotes, italics, bold, reference list entries, in-text citations, spacing, indentation, headings, indentation, anthropomorphism, and the use of abbreviations and acronyms.
  • I will tweak or reconstruct tables and figures that do not meet the standards of the style with which you are working.
  • I will confirm that your manuscript has a functioning automatic table of contents.
  • I will insure that your manuscript meets all requirements of your chosen style.
What file formats do you use?
My strong preference is to work in Microsoft WORD and to use the proprietary “Track Changes” feature to make changes and the “Show Comments” feature to leave Comments for you.  See my Editor's Blog to review comments that I have left for students and scholars in prior edits.

What files will you deliver upon completion?
The basic deliverable will be a “tracked” file with Comments. Upon request, I will also deliver (a) a “tracked” file with Comments deleted, (b) a file with Comments only, and (c) a totally “clean” file in which “tracked” changes have been “accepted” and Comments have been deleted.

What is your policy on Privacy and Confidentiality?
Information and documents that I receive from you belong to you, as do the contents of any edit that I perform for you.  I have no proprietary interest in these materials. I will treat these materials as private and confidential to you and will not share them with any other party.

Upon completion of work together, I will ask for your permission to use the title of your manuscript on the Portfolio page of this website.

What guarantees do you provide?
We will work together on your manuscript until you are fully satisfied with it. At that time, even though I cannot guarantee acceptance of your thesis, dissertation, or article, I can guarantee that usage, style, and formatting will be perfect.

How do I know I will be pleased with the outcome?
